Dell Recycling
It introduced its recycling service first in Australia and New Zealand in 2004. Dell Australia has assisted customers reuse and recycle more than 800 tonnes of computer hardware and gear. Reported to 2006 Australian bureau of statistics figures, Australians purchased twenty-four million new computers and laptops. With intelligent recycling, Dell has managed to recycle up to ninety-eight percent of computer products!
It all began, when Dell a laptop computer caught fire in the year 2005, and it conducted an extended recall of 35,000 batteries sold with Latitude, Inspiron and Precision laptops in December 2005. The company announced free recycling of Dell branded new, as well as old products. It also admitted other brands in return for a purchase from Dell. It ran two free community recycling events in Sydney and Brisbane, trucking almost 20 tonnes of used equipment including monitors, desktops, printers and notebook computer computers and later moved to additional cities like Melbourne and Wellington. This effort in Australia helped restore Dell’s image in a big way. As of 2008, it has acquired second berth in computer sales inside the industry.
